The version of the story I know is that she fell ill at a Labor Day party hosted by Arbuckle and died several days later (from the 48 hour drunken debauchery or an incident of rape or a combination, I don't know). Arbuckle was charged and cleared in connection with her death but his career was destroyed in the process.
